IS IT PERMISSIBLE TO PREPARE MEALS ON THE SABBATH ? WHAT THE BIBLE REALLY SAYS

The Sabbath is a very important day in the Bible. God established this day for his people to rest and devote themselves to worship. In EXODUS 20:8 it is written: “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. » This commandment shows that the Sabbath must be different from the other days of the week.

However, a question often arises among believers: is it permissible to prepare meals on the Sabbath? To answer this question, it is important to look carefully at what the Bible teaches.

WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT PREPARING FOOD

A very important passage is found in EXODUS 12:16:

“On the first day you will have a holy convocation; and on the seventh day you will have a holy convocation. No work will be done on these days; you will only be able to prepare food for each person. »

In this verse, God forbids ordinary work during these holy days. However, it allows for one exception: the preparation of the necessary food for each person.

This shows that God understands the needs of human beings. Eating is a necessity for life. Thus, preparing simple food to meet the needs of the family can be permitted.

THE SABBATH: A DAY OF REST ESTABLISHED BY GOD

The New Testament also recalls the importance of the Sabbath rest. In HEBREWS 4:4, 6-11 it is written:

“For he has spoken somewhere thus of the seventh day: And God rested from all his works on the seventh day...Therefore there is a sabbath rest reserved for the people of God. »

This passage reminds us that the Sabbath finds its origin in creation. When God finished his work, he rested on the seventh day. This rest has become a symbol of the rest that God wants to give to his people.

So the Sabbath should not be filled with heavy work or tiring activities. It is intended for rest, peace and communion with God.

FINDING BALANCE IN SABBATH KEEPING

Many believers choose to prepare their meals before the Sabbath arrives in order to avoid any important activities on that day. This helps keep the Sabbath in a spirit of rest and tranquility.

However, when necessary, preparing a simple meal can be understood as a permissible activity, since the Bible recognizes the basic need for nourishment.

The main thing is to respect the spirit of the Sabbath: it is a day dedicated to God, to rest and to spiritual life.

CONCLUSION

The Bible teaches that the Sabbath is a sacred day for rest and worship. Ordinary work should be avoided in order to preserve the sanctity of this day.

However, according to EXODUS 12:16, the preparation of necessary food may be permitted. The Sabbath must remain a time of peace, rest and communion with God, as also recalled in the passage from HEBREWS 4:4-11.

By following these principles, believers can observe the Sabbath while meeting the basic needs of life
