DID THE APOSTLES KEEP THE SABBATH AFTER THE RÉSURRECTION OF JESUS ?
Many Christians wonder whether the apostles continued to observe the Sabbath after Jesus rose from the dead. Some believe that the day of worship changed, but the Bible provides important evidence.
The apostles preached on the Sabbath
The book of Acts shows that the apostles frequently gathered and preached on the Sabbath.
Acts 13:14 says:
“On the Sabbath day they went into the synagogue and sat down.”
This indicates that the Sabbath was still a significant day for teaching and worship.
Paul’s custom was to preach on the Sabbath
The apostle Paul followed the same practice.
Acts 17:2 states:
“Paul went in, as was his custom, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures.”
The phrase “as was his custom” shows that this was his regular habit.
Gentiles were also interested
Interestingly, even Gentiles wanted to hear the message on the Sabbath.
Acts 13:42 says:
“The Gentiles begged that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath.”
CONCLUSION
The Bible records that the apostles continued teaching and gathering on the Sabbath after the resurrection of Jesus. This suggests that the Sabbath still held importance for early Christians.
