CAN SOMEONE BE SAVED WITHOUT KEEPING THE SABBATH ?
One of the most debated questions among Christians today is this: Can a person be saved without keeping the Sabbath?
Some believers think the Sabbath is no longer important, while others believe it remains part of God’s eternal law. To understand the truth, we must look carefully at what the Bible teaches.
1. SALVATION COMES THROUGH JESUS CHRIST
The Bible clearly teaches that salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ.
The apostle Paul wrote:
“For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.” (Ephesians 2:8)
No human being can earn salvation by works. It is a gift from God through Jesus Christ.
However, true faith in Christ produces obedience to God's commandments.
2. GOD’S COMMANDMENTS STILL MATTER
Jesus Himself said:
“If you love me, keep my commandments.” (John 14:15)
The Ten Commandments were written by God, including the fourth commandment about the Sabbath.
Exodus 20:8 says:
“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.”
This shows that the Sabbath was not invented by humans. It was established by God.
3. JESUS KEPT THE SABBATH
Jesus never abolished the Sabbath. In fact, the Bible says:
“As His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day.” (Luke 4:16)
If Jesus is our example, then His followers should also respect what He practiced.
4. THE SABBATH WAS MADE FOR HUMANITY
Jesus also declared:
“The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.” (Mark 2:27)
Notice that Jesus did not say the Sabbath was made only for Jews.
He said it was made for mankind.
The Sabbath is therefore a blessing for all people.
5. TRUE FAITH LEADS TO OBEDIENCE
The Bible teaches that faith and obedience go together.
James wrote:
“Faith without works is dead.” (James 2:17)
If someone truly loves God, they will desire to follow His commandments, including the Sabbath.
CONCLUSION
Salvation comes only through Jesus Christ and His grace.
But genuine faith in Christ leads believers to respect God’s commandments.
The Sabbath remains a holy day blessed by God since creation, and it is a gift meant to bring rest, worship, and a deeper relationship with the Creator.
Those who truly love God will seek to honor what He has blessed.
